Sam is going to have pillz! Thyroxine! O what fun!
I am so glad they found something treatable.

Invest in some spare fingers now. You're gonna need them.

And now you can look forward to all the fun of giving the cat pills!

Something identifiable and treatable is good news indeed.

oh joy ;-) But yes, yay on the havinga treatment. Sam's hyperthyroid then? Theo has been mysteriously having problems with low weight (and unwilling to eat enough to gain weight) for ages. The vets have managed to rule everything they've tested him for including hyperthyroid out - except it seems he could be supressed hyperthyroid, where another ongoing issue supresses the thyroid overfunction of hyperthyroid, so then you can't medicate for hyperthyroid since it's already supressed - but in that case, why the symptoms?. Gah. all very confusing. So I have a generally happy but very fussy about food skinny old man of a cat. Who looks like he ought to be just about blind but seems to see all sorts of things (though clearly he doesn't see as well as he used to).

Various vets, presented with weight-loss Sam, have suspected thyroid issues for years -- this is the first time the tests have come back outside normal range. (Which is why I'm so relieved, because it looks like an ongoing problem that is finally bad enough to treat.) So Theo may be on his way to thyroid problems.

I am in two minds about Sam putting on weight. He is already ever so heavy when he wants to be ...

YAY for a diagnosis! And it's treatable!

I hope Sam takes pills with equanimity. Cleo was more dog than cat when it came to pills. I'd put him on the table and he'd sit right down - purring - give me one forepaw to hold (not restrain, just hold, as in holding hands). He'd open his mouth when I nudged his chin with the hand that held the pill. I'd pop the pill in his mouth, give him a hug, and carry him off to the kitchen to give him a meal. He purred through the whole thing. Weird cat. But omg it made twice-daily pilling a breeze.

Yay! I'm so pleased he can be treated. Though I don't give much for your chances with the pills. Let me know if you want to borrow our pestle & mortar :)

hehe. Yes, I'm amazed sometimes at the way Theo can feel lightweight and too thin when I pick him up one time, and just a few hours later it seems he's gotten ever so much heavier, if that suits him.

He might get used to the idea of daily pills - Cassie did. She was on thyroxine for ages.

Alternatively, invest in a syringe: crush the tablet, mix with water, put mixture into syringe, and squirt straight down cat's throat.
