Had a minor 3-for-2 accident in Waterstones earlier (I wanted to buy a copy of The Girls for my friend M's birthday, and it was in the 3-for-2, so obviously ...)

I've just spent ten minutes trying to guess the title of one of the books by entering possibilities in the LibraryThing search box ('catastrophe' produced too many, 'catastrophic physics' produced the wrong ones, 'problems catastrophe physics' produced none at all) before conceding defeat, removing myself from the sofa and going into the other room to look at the actual book (which is Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl, because I can't walk past a title like that when it appears on the fiction table).

(The other one is Alexander McCall Smith's Dream Angus, in the Canongate Myth series.)

Yeah, I also picked up the Pessl book because I couldn't resist the title. Okay, the blurb sounded intriguing as well. You never know, one day I might even get around to reading it...
