Black Summer Rain

Took delivery of new to me car despite financial ineptitude (mine, for a change).

Drove new car along sunny, ultragreen country lanes towards apocalyptic stormclouds spiking lightning and roiling impressively.

Located lights and wipers on new car, not a moment too soon.

Sat ten feet from my front door in new car listening to Purcell on the radio and watching hefty, fake-looking hailstones bounce off shiny paintwork.

Scuttled indoors in brief lull (still enough to soak but not to stun) to be greeted by dismayed WTF from cats, who would like me to FIX RAIN NOW PLS KTHX.

Tonight, I shall be dredging through my files for Evidence.

No huzzah for hail/thunder/rain/floods which got me on the way back from the supermarket. Umbrella was no protection at all...

Eldest son went on his Primary School Leavers' Outing today.
To the seaside.

I've just landed another urgent translation (the reason I'm sat here now, but at least it's archaeology and therefore interesting) so I heard rather than saw the weather. Except the bit when it knocked out my electricity and the ntl cable.

Could be worse. I'd been driving my current car for about an hour before I realized I couldn't get reverse gear. Worse, it was at a filling station.

(Turned out you had to pull back a ratchet on the gear stick.)
