Happy New Year!

I have decreed that my New Year starts today.

Today was first morning of waking up in my new (and oddly empty) flat.

I have made my bed (280 components, Tesco Direct) and last night I laid on it. And slept the sleep of one who is not disturbed by furry-purry things. (How I miss my darlings! However, they are well cared for, and will be joining me soon.)

I have made my futon, too, but it's oddly non-Euclidian.

I have discovered that I have a prepayment card for gas. This would be why I had no gas supply, what with not having been told of the arrangement ...

The drive to werk ('scenic' route) will take me past daffodils in a month or so.

Visit to ex-landlady last night. I sat and looked at her and I could still see my old friend, someone I've known for over 20 years, across the table. But it's broken now -- she broke it -- and, at last, I'm over that. I have closure. Which is a good feeling.

She still cooks a mean paella.

Have researched local history a bit. The shop where I top up my gas card is in Philanthropic Road, which is the site of the Philanthropic Society's Farm School.

And the pub at the end of the road is medieval and renowned as a meeting-place for highwaymen.

And on at least one C19 map, this road has a completely different name.

Pleased to hear that you are in your new home. I wish you happiness there. And lots of daffodils.

Very pleased to hear that you have achieved closure with ex-landlady.

FYI: Pre-payment meters are more expensive than getting a quarterly bill or paying by Direct Debit. But in a rented flat it's likley to be up to the Landlord/lady to allow the meter to be exchanged for a 'normal' one.

Do you want any of your plants bringing over in the van tomorrow? You Xmas cactus has a flower!

Sounds nice. Love the idea of 'Philanthropic Road', got to be the best street name since 'Esperanto Place' in Sheffield.

A non-Euclidean futon sounds like the kind of thing that Cthulhu lies sleeping on!

plants? yes please!

Will be thinking about switching electricity/gas suppliers soon (as recommended by letting agency) so will probably stick to pre-pay for now. but it's a pain, especially as they only take cash in my local branch!

closure - *very* good news.
sorry we can't help with the move - sister picked this weekend to try and empty mum's house, although she can now 'only do a day'. did your closure involve a shovel at any point?

OK, which ones? Or all of them?

NB: Some gas/elec suppliers (2 or 3 of the 6) don't charge extra for prepayment meters, but have the same unit charge as quarterly bills - something to consider when switching.
