Honey, I'm Home!
Sunday, November 26th, 2006 05:43 amHave had splendid time in LA, NZ, HK (well, less so in HK, very claustrophobic what with overcast / crowds / plethora of signage, but it was interesting). Now am enjoying company of HUGE black furry things. Were they this size when I left? Or is it just by comparison with itsy-bitsy NZ kitzen?
Lots of photos. Like, seriously lots. Will be sorting through and posting the pick of the crop on Flickr (really must convert to pro account so I can have more than 200 visible ...)
Also need to write up holiday reading:
Blood and Sand -- Rosemary Sutcliff -- good, tho' brimming with subtext
The Island of the Day Before -- Umberto Eco -- baffling, indulgent, irritating and a relief to have finished
English Passengers -- Matthew Kneale -- enjoyable after slow start. Am slightly spooked by various structural / thematic congruences between this and my Dampier novel.
The Privilege of the Sword -- Ellen Kushner -- delicious, funny, thought-provoking and swashbuckling as all get-out.
Life Mask -- Emma Donohue -- tragically, I had to lounge in MY BED for hours (see above under Cats) this morning to finish this. I liked it very much though not sure I agree with some of the ways in which it's made Relevant.
And must finish novel-revision, though we have done two-thirds of it and covered all the tricky stuff. And demonstrated that our minds really do work alike. be afraid, be very afraid. Now need publisher in order to sponsor further RL collaborations.
Jet lag? No, that was yesterday. Am feeling remarkably wide-awake. Though someone has dimmed the lights.
What've I missed? (Damn'd if I'm playing catch-up.) Leave a link or a comment if there's something I should see!
