I've written up my notes on the panels and GOH spots I attended at Eastercon. They are only notes, unstructured and possibly incoherent. Links go to previous posts on this LJ.

Saturday 10:00: Novel Discussion: Tanith Lee - Drinking Sapphire Wine (Craig Gidney)

Saturday 11:00: Guest of Honour: China MiƩville: "For God's Sake It's Just A Story! A Reader's Guide to Ruining SF."

Saturday 12:30 Fantastic London. From Dickens to Iain Sinclair, London is one of the most imagined cities in the world. Why is that, and what does a fantastic imagination add? (Neil Gaiman, Geoff Ryman, Louis Savy, Graham Sleight)

Saturday 14:00 Guest of Honour: Tanith Lee interviewed by Sarah Singleton.

Sunday 21:00 Mitch Benn Entertains
No notes but YAY. I was unfamiliar with Mitch Benn and now I know what I've been missing: have been searching out YouTube clips.

Sunday 22:00 Slash & Pornography: Where Does Slash End and Porn Start? Ask a hundred slash writers if they write porn and fifty will say no. Where's the line? Does it matter if there isn't one? And what's wrong with writing porn anyway? This items is for adults only. (Sue Mason, Milena Popova, Jean Sheward, Sue Wadsworth-Ladkin).
brief write-up )

Monday 14:00 You're Reading it Wrong: Do you need to know genre to read genre? Do you need to know an author's previous work to critically assess their latest work? Is it even possible to 'misread' a book? To whose opinion (authors, critics, fans) should we give the most weight? (Andrew Ducker, Penny Hill, Tanith Lee, Farah Mendlesohn, Charles Stross.)

Monday 15:00 Darker than Potter: The Disturbing Side of Children's Fiction. The later Harry Potter books include frequent deaths, a dark tone and adult themes. Are the books still suitable for children? Is children's fantasy filled with dark and disturbing themes, or is this really a new trend? (Holly Black, Neil Gaiman, Ruth O'Reilly, Sarah Singleton, Steve Vander Ark).
