Proofreader wanted
Friday, February 10th, 2006 09:37 amThe Times is looking for a proofreader. At least I hope it is.
Exhibit A: today's front page. There's a box-out covering claims that Siôn Jenkins was violent towards his ex-wife.
Siôn came downstarirs, really stressed. He hit me around the face hard and my head was spinning with the force. I went upstatirs and hid in the loft, crying. [absolutely sic]
Exhibit B: the Times website, reporting the same story. (May be fixed by the time you read, but although the typos above have been removed, new ones have been added: prone to outbursts of voilent anger, for example.
This isn't a last-minute story: it's reportage on a case that ended yesterday afternoon. It's the front page. And it seems that the copy hasn't even been run through a spell-checker, let alone past a proofreader. This isn't your local free paper: this isn't a blog <g>: this is the London Times, Newspaper of the Year
EDIT: I found it on the train.
