Order out of Chaos

Saturday, June 11th, 2005 08:58 am
Dear Body
If I had wanted to start sorting out the study at 7am, I would have set the alarm.

Progress so far:
4 6 8 bags of rubbish
1 bag 2 bags for charity shop
a big stack of computer books and software for [livejournal.com profile] soulstar
2 broken fingernails

Does anyone want:
- a black suede dress, size 10
- 10 issues of seminal SF mag Odyssey
- issues 75-83 of Foundation
- about 3 years' worth of British Archaeology
- some videos (Heart, Adam Ant, Clan of the Cave Bear,Kind Hearts and Coronets, Neverwhere, Billy Idol, The blues Brothers)?
- a rather groovy modern oil lamp, plus oil (it sets of my smoke alarm)
- a zip drive
- some yoga blocks
- a bag of miscellaneous (and largely mysterious) power cables and connection leads
- [livejournal.com profile] drpete, do you want your old phone back?

photographic progress record, for own peace of mind )
Things I have discovered in the last few hours:

- another really vile present from my sister (cat picture with real fur)
- lots of photos of young folk who bear slight, but nagging, resemblances to people I know now
- a series of postcards from China
- a series of postcards from Australia (season 1)
- a series of postcards from Australia (season 2)
- some, er, herbal substances
- an Elizabethan theatre
- my father's wartime carte d'identitie
- a brain ([livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray?)

I have done one wall of the study -- not that you can tell, as the shelves are still full of things to be boxed: but they are definitely things I want to keep.

Oh, and my Memories box (tickets, wedding invites and the like) is full. So no more Memories for me.

Yes, I realise this is of no interest at all to anyone but me.

A Bare Pinboard

Saturday, June 11th, 2005 01:50 pm
Discovered all sorts of things in the strata of my pinboard, too: old photos, vouchers that expired years ago, notes on soprano / counter-tenor ranges, part of my family tree ...

Also a few clippings and printouts of poems.

Bienvenido Poem for Sophie -- Sandra Cisneros (The author has a lovely, but Flash, site).

Jo Shapcott's 'Quark', which does not seem to be online anywhere (though there's a reference to it almost being banned from Poems on the Underground, due to Language):Quark )

Do You Think We'll Ever Get to See Earth, Sir? -- Sheenagh Pugh. (Her website is fascinating: she may be an SF fan, and she's certainly aware of fan fiction.)

Right: once more into the breach. Why, if I've been doing this for six hours, does it look no tidier? (Answer: because I'm not looking into all the empty drawers or the junk-trap under the bureau.)

Am kind of relieved it's not nice enough to head for the seaside.
Up for grabs [EDITED]:
- a bag full of filing stuff in good nick (e.g. ring binders, dividers etc -- I've binned most of it but some of this is brand new)
- coloured paper (about 200 sheets, A4): yellow paper (500 sheets, A4): white paper (500 sheets, A4)
- Filofax hole punch
- Logitech Palm keyboard and drivers. (It doesn't play well with the T3, but was fine on the other Palms I tried it on.)
- Logitech mouse-with-wire
- rubber statue of Venus de Milo
- Shakespearian Tarot
- double pack of playing cards (flowers)
- USB cradle for Visor PDA (available in black or clear)
- base board and mirror for craft projects
- cockroach glove-puppet
- voodoo doll (may be examined for pinpricks if you wish to confirm my reputation)
- assorted Real Paid-For Software on CD (er, such as Encarta 95)
- my will to box things lost cause

First come first served: free to good homes: am not posting anything anywhere unless you bribe me.

Can't do anything more until I've room to move; won't have room to move until I've taken eight bags of rubbish downstairs; suspect I may not make it back upstairs, at this rate.

And need a shower before I venture past my own front door. Ewww.

Oh, lovely. Rain. (No, that wasn't the sort of shower I meant ...)

Looking at it, I can't work out how I removed 9 bags of rubbish and 2 bags of charity donations and still left so much ...
