Elitist Entertainment

Turns out that the key question to ask when buying ENO tickets is not "Please may I have a couple of seats in the balcony?" but "What are the cheapest seats available?"

Rigoletto: £3. Allegedly restricted view, but all this meant was that the balcony railing was between me and very top of the stage.

£3. None of us ([livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray, [livejournal.com profile] lproven, [livejournal.com profile] kjersti) could think of anything you can see in London for £3. (Well, maybe the Prince Charles cinema).

And it was good. Still glorious music (with bits in between). Still almost comprehensible English, especially in the second act. And the jukebox joke is still funny (or possibly differently funny). Soon, no one will understand (a) what a jukebox is, or (b) why you might hit one if it seemed to be stuck.

Next up: The Handmaid's Tale (Paul Ruders', UK premiere, based on the book: er, 'modern'. Maybe April 14th?) and The Trojans at Carthage (Berlioz: AU sequel to The Trojans: The Capture of Troy .. am considering 8th or 29th May).

At £3, if you don't like it -- leave!
.. but I'm waiting for Godot Tesco's ... before I can go out to the bank and pay in whopping great cheque ...

Come get your fortune read!
