I have an exciting* physical symptom which I associate with other, less visible indicators.

The area between my eyes and my eyebrows swells up to such an extent that I can't open my eyes properly. It makes me look very odd.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

*not very exciting

Turning Japanese.

At least, I think so.

Erm, from what little I know, it could be a sinus thing. The dry air in the hotel at the weekend has caused some havoc in mine.

Your head chakra is probably blocked, and could do with draining. While you're at it, you mght want to cleanse your doors of perception (a bit of routine maintenance, really). Normal contemplation of the infinite can resume soon afterwards.

Seriously? Sounds like sinuses to me.

Happens quite often, not just at Eastercon. I think you have pointed out in the past that I look as if I'm about to cry.

Not sure, but I certainly experience something similar most mornings...

You need to go to Sainsbury's, then.

Lanson Rose for £15, Jeanmaire rose (champagne, not methode) for a tenner. And the monistrol rose for about a fiver a bottle.

Mmmmm.

You're not turning into a Buffyverse vampire are you? Or a Star Trek extra?

Not enough information.:) Does it happen only at specific times, and if so, when? Only indoors, only outdoors, or both? Did you eat and/or drink something 20-30 minutes before this happens, and if so, what? Does it hurt? Itch? Glow in the dark? Enquiring minds want to know.

Personally, I'd visit my gp. The face has lots of sensitive stuff.

You mean your eyelids? Could be trivial, could be serious (see http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/sym/eyelid_swelling.htm). Might be thyroid if it's eyes rather than eyelids. I'd go see your GP.

If I'd meant eyelids I'd have said eyelids. I mean the area between the crease of the eyelid and the hair of the eyebrow.
I do not trust my GP to diagnose or prescribe anything, having just spent 18 months enduring a condition caused by prescription medicine and incorrect advice on how to take it.

It happens when I'm a certain sort of depressed. No obvious link to food, drink, time, place, concentration of people (or fans). Not notably glowing, but maybe everyone else can see it and it's Just Me.

I'm especially interested as it seems to be a physical, external symptom of what I had assumed to be a mental / emotional glitch.

Sadly, I no longer trust my GP to get anything right ...

Could be.

I do hope not!
I have a red shirt on, though. Is this a problem?

it's not that frequent, and it's quite uncomfortable: area is swollen enough to limit visibility.

Allergies?

I once had the whole area of one eye swell up so much I couldn't open my eye enough to get my contact lens in, but I had a bad cold and best guess is that (possible TMI) my tear duct had become blocked and 'backed up' slightly... It was only for a few hours, but I was working in Starlog (an SF shop) at the time so it was quite appropriate that I looked sort-of half-klingon...

Wear dark glasses. (At least it's sunny today, so you have an excuse...)
