"I hope I do not offend by confessing I've not read your books."

"On the contrary, my lord, there is nothing so civilised as to be recognised in public places as the author of books no one has read."

Taking a brief break from The System of the World -- downloaded 7:30 am -- to get dressed, make breakfast and recharge the bloody T3's battery. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] drplokta for pointing the way!

I got it at 6:30am. But I have to work now, alas, so you're already ahead of me.

Stupid me, forgot you'd be at home. FP are being clueless on the subject of SotW, and can only say 'some time before the end of this week'. Besides, I was silly on Sunday and bought a copy of Jonathon Strange... in Brussels. Which might delay my reading of the Stephenson...

FP utterly useless ... but thanks for heads-up, as I was planning to drop by later and get less portable version!

Delayed? Heretick!

Not very delayed. As of about 9am this morning, I'd reached page 660.

(That said, on a quick lunchtime recce of FP and Murder One, to console myself for the absence of SotW, I bought Baxter's new one, Exultant.)

Fear not, I will be checking daily.
