Arthur C Clarke Award
Sunday, May 19th, 2002 08:19 pmI very much enjoyed the Clarke Award festivities yesterday at London's Science Museum, despite the fact that being in the Wellcome Wing, right at the back of the place, feels like being several miles underground on the set of an 80s SF movie: and made me terribly claustrophobic. More SF luminaries than ... well, I didn't take a stick with me, or I could have shook it at 'em.
I didn't expect Gwyneth Jones' Bold as Love to win, but I'm extremely glad it did, since it's the most cheering and addictive novel I've read for years. Next instalment (Castles Made of Sand) out in June ...
And here we present:
Master of Ceremonies China Mieville, in a Suit. ("It's not for me, China: it's for a friend ...")

Happy Gwyneth (who dressed to match the Award)
