It is better to travel hopefully ...

No trains running from Paddington via Reading. A real party atmosphere here
on the concourse - y'know, one of those parties where people get glassed and
the house gets trashed.
Now to find a corner quiet enough to tell sister the joyous news...

I don't know what the issue is, but there is a separate train line to Reading from Waterloo...

Indeed, although it is a stopping line which takes forever. A possibly quicker alternative in times of desperation is Waterloo -> Basingstoke -> Reading. The last leg is via a small shuttle that runs once or twice an hour depending on time of day.

Was, sadly, heading rather further than Reading (Plymouth, in fact). Worked on basis that if train wasn't running from Paddington, little point going to Reading ...
