That's very impressive. I am now shamed into thinking I ought to find out where our stopcock is and how to turn it off just in case.

Well done!

have no idea where stopcock is.

Glad to hear it's temporarily fixed, at least.

[identity profile] tamaranth.livejournal.com 2010-12-22 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
it is remarkably useful information! (Also worth checking that you, personally, can turn it off. There was a moment of doubt ...)

[identity profile] tamaranth.livejournal.com 2010-12-22 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
thank god it's not just me who doesn't know stopcock location! (In Redhill I had an excellent excuse, there wasn't one -- well, there was one for both flats, which was under the front path somewhere)

[identity profile] tamaranth.livejournal.com 2010-12-22 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
should be fine til spring! Yay for outside-tap pipes with an 'off' option.

[identity profile] pennski.livejournal.com 2010-12-22 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Hurrah! Well done you.

Knows where stopcock is. Believes she can turn it off but hasn't checked recently.

Wow, thanks for noticing and sorting and mopping! Will investigate in a couple of days...

[identity profile] tamaranth.livejournal.com 2010-12-23 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
nothing to investigate, outside-tap pipe turned off: when it is turned on again there will be a spray of water. If you want to call out a plumber over Christmas, don't let me stop you! But outside-tap pipe should probably be turned off anyway, and we can get it fixed any time.

Well done!

Did think it was behind the dishwasher, but discovered the other year that that's just an isolation valve for the feed to the dishwasher...

...is glad we don't have an outside tap...

FYI: a duct tape pipe that is thoroughly duct taped to the pont that no water drips from it (and then more layers) can last for *years*. I repaired a dripping pipe in the garden in Bath with a roll of duct tape and it lasted maybe 6 years and would ahve lasted longer but we demolished the shed it went to.
