Foiled!

I was really looking forward to coming home and having a QNI with a good book -- especially as Amazon dispatched an order full of 'em yesterday.

But nooooooo. Because of the postal strikes, they have decided to divert at least some of their deliveries via Home Delivery Network, who left a card to say they had a parcel from Amazon for me but couldn't deliver it as I wasn't in. (Shockingly, I werk Mon-Fri. Who'd've thought?)

I've just phoned the number on the card.
- they don't deliver on Saturdays
- they won't give me the parcel number so I can't go and collect the parcel until I get the second card, on Monday
- but their depot ('in Gatwick', which could mean anything) is only open until 7pm
- which means I'll get my parcel on Tuesday evening
- which means I am feeling pretty put out (and hacked off at Amazon for choosing an alternate delivery method that actually doesn't work as well as Royal Mail, or even Royal-Mail-on-strike).

WANT MY BOOKS.

Gah. I feel your pain. I go through something painfully similar with United Parcel Service on an all too regular basis.

*smites Amazon for you*

One of them is the book I was discussing elsewhere for Research Purposes ...

You could get shitty and demand your money back.

wouldn't get me the books any faster. Or indeed at all.

Have written them a stroppy email emphasising Customer Choice. (I will always go for Royal Mail, at least at current address, because (a) they will leave parcels outside and (b) I know where they live, and (c) it's 10 mins walk away, not a bloody Expotition to 'Gatwick'.)

While I ordered stuff to my work address precisely because Amazon said that they weren't using Royal Mail, so it would avoid the black hole that is the East London sorting office. Despite which, they used it, and my cameras vanished in the post.
One full refund later, and I'm off to Jessops in the morning. If I'd wanted to do that, I could have done that two weeks ago. [sigh]
Had I known that they would have used Royal Mail despite their statements on the website, I'd have had them delivered to my home address - where I can get to the office to pick them up, and where the sorting office don't do wildcat strikes or 'lose' as many items.
Yes, I'm rather narked.
