iPod Spares

anyone want a broken iPod for anything?

I can get it into disk mode about one try in 10, but the PC won't connect to it, so there is no way of updating anything. And tbh from the noise it's making, it doesn't seem likely to recover.

I am running out of gadgets that can break or go wrong.

might be worth taking in to your Local Apple Store. at least "over here" they have a little section where they troubleshoot hardware problems for free; they might even give you a new one if you smile nicely.

Apple store? I am not sure there is any such thing in The Countryside: and I suspect I have Voided my Warranty by putting a new battery (i.e. one that held a charge for more than 5 hours) in it. Worth a try, I s'pose!

There's one on Oxford Street, but plan to get there early (they open at 10am) if you wantg anything done rapidly at the 'Genius Bar'.

I am wary of taking it in, given that it's been interfered with (battery replaced). Suspect they will simply refuse to help.

and here's how to reset, just in case the ipod is fine and it's the user that is not:
