It's odd that we have SUCH similar backgrounds. My mother was a most unlikely sailor, too. She hates swimming in the sea, yet my father was able to persuade her to hang out of a Fireball dinghy on a trapeze every weekend in order to win racing trophies. In the photographs she always looks cold and windblown, but so young and happy it makes me want to cry.
Children do change things, but they don't necessarily make them worse. And memories are often much better than the real thing.
