I just walked into the lounge and plucked a book from the shelf. The book was still shrink-wrapped though I bought it at least 10 years ago (from TSP, who used to shrink-wrap everything). I discarded the packaging, opened the book at random ...

... and found the exact same examples ('a bird in the the bush', a sentence with 8 f's not 6) that were used in Dr Guillaume Thierry's 'Braintrix' (on the brain's perceptual tricks), the George Hay lecture last Saturday at Eastercon.

*prod*, went the Universe. Pay attention. [...] shouldn't have to keep reminding you..

The book was Sue Knight's NLP at Work: I will be posting later about what prompted me to finally open it.

It looks interesting. I've ordered a copy.

I have read and enjoyed it and recommend particularly the exercises at the back. One of the things it explained to me was why people who end up in IT and Finance often don't understand people who work in Sales - we literally see the world in different ways.

Oh, we've got a copy of the Sue Knight book. [livejournal.com profile] pennski borrowed a copy when she was having some anxiety problems a few years ago and found it very helpful. So I bought a copy which I thought might help me in similar circumstances.

I think I read part of a chapter...I'm not very disciplined about stuff like that I'm afraid.

There is a lot of useful stuff in NLP, from what P. has said. Just don't do what certain people have done (yes, John & Yvonne Meaney, I'm talking about you!) and turn NLP into an evangelical religious experience...

Do let us know how you get on with it.
